Prerequisites
Before installing, ensure your system meets the following requirements:
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit)
- Autodesk Revit 2022, 2023, 2024, or 2025
- .NET Framework 4.8 or later
- Administrator access for installation
- At least 100 MB free disk space
Installation Steps
Step 01
Download the Installer
Download the latest version of the tool from our Downloads page. Choose the version that matches your Revit installation year.
- 1.Visit the Downloads page and locate the tool you want to install
- 2.Check the supported Revit versions listed on the download card
- 3.Click the Download button to save the installer (.exe) file
- 4.Note the download location - you'll need it in the next step
Step 02
Run the Installer
Run the downloaded installer with administrator privileges. The installer will guide you through the setup process.
- 1.Locate the downloaded .exe file in your Downloads folder
- 2.Right-click the file and select "Run as administrator"
- 3.If prompted by Windows Defender, click "More info" then "Run anyway"
- 4.Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installation
- 5.Choose your Revit version when prompted
Step 03
Load in Revit
Start Revit and load the plugin. The tool will appear in the Add-ins tab of the Revit ribbon.
- 1.Close Revit if it's currently running
- 2.Start Revit - the plugin loads automatically on startup
- 3.Look for the PlugInModel tab in the ribbon (or in Add-ins > External Tools)
- 4.If the tab doesn't appear, see Troubleshooting below
- 5.Click the tool icon to launch and verify installation
Updating to a New Version
- 1.Close Revit completely before updating
- 2.Download the new version from the Downloads page
- 3.Run the new installer - it will automatically replace the old version
- 4.Start Revit and verify the new version is loaded
Uninstalling
To remove a PlugInModel tool from your system:
- 1.Close Revit completely
- 2.Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps
- 3.Find the PlugInModel tool and click Uninstall
- 4.Follow the prompts to complete removal
Troubleshooting
Plugin tab doesn't appear in Revit
- Verify the installation completed successfully
- Check if the .addin file exists in: %ProgramData%\Autodesk\Revit\Addins\[Year]
- Restart Revit completely (not just close and reopen project)
- Check Revit's "Add-Ins" dialog for any loading errors
Error message on Revit startup
- Ensure .NET Framework 4.8 is installed
- Verify the Revit version matches the plugin version
- Try reinstalling as administrator
- Check if antivirus is blocking the plugin files
Plugin loads but crashes when used
- Update to the latest plugin version
- Check if Revit is updated to the latest service pack
- Try running Revit as administrator
- Contact support with the error details
